Just asking, does anyone have an alcoholic drink? I only wonder because since my foot op, I haven't been feeling like a drink. I had a guinness on boxing day but no painkillers to dampen down the pain. I know from reading ra information it does not like you drinking (or smoking - which I don't). Just wondering how you feel on drinking? Jane Xxx

I have a tipple yes- not on the day I take my MTX and probably shouldn't take any at all, but we still have a life to live! YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Hi Jane, One glass (even just a half glass) goes to my head, so I don't bother with alcohol anymore, I don't miss it at all. My OH can't have alcohol because of his meds so we are in the same boat. I always get him some non alcoholic lager at Christmas though. Mary

Hi Jane, I recently started on leflunomide and was told no alcohol at all! Never been a particularly big drinker, but when you are told not to, its sods law, you want one!! I havent had any at all over Christmas, hasnt really bothered me that much, but would have liked to have had the usual bucks fizz Christmas Day!!

Nope - amongst other things I have migraine and one short or one glass of wine would bring one on immediately. Gave up over 25 years ago and now have no interest in it at all. I have even gone off the alcohol free versions. People quickly got past the "Go on, have a real drink" stage when they realised they had a nominated driver right there. And as it turns out, no bad thing given the number of medications that have adverse warnings on the boxes. Some years ago one of my gastroenterology consultants told me that while he could in no way encourage me for obvious reasons, there was evidence that smokers had a reduced chance of ulcerative colitis. Is the same true for RA I wonder? (I gave that up 25 years ago too) Paul Barrett

I drink so rarely that I have a policy - when I do have a very occasional drink I have one champagne cocktail to make it worth it

I drink life a fish - I know I shouldn't I was told max 7 units a week on mtx. When I first started I was really good but I came off mtx for a while so got back into the habit

Umm - mea culpa! I like my wine and although I feel guilty sometimes, it doesn't stop me. I did cut out alcohol almost completely when I first started mtx, but I kept checking my blood results and there was no impact when I had a glass or two, so I think "why not!". Don't admit it to the doc though! Be kinder than is necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

As a real teetoller (migraine) I have sometimes to convince them that when I say none, I mean NONE Paul Barrett

Been a teetotaller for years. Not through choice. One sniff of alcohol and I come over all unnecessary. I used to be able to drink when I was younger but even one mouthful now sends my head in a spin. My Husband always jokes I could get drunk on a wine gum. I must admit I do still long for a lovely glass of wine or the odd spirit especially at Christmas. I now substitute with chocolate as you have to have at least one vice. Jackie xx

Hello,
Hello to All RA friends.
I have not been on here for a while, but I must confess that I do enjoy a glass of wine, however with my meds it usually is only one.
I don't think the odd glass of wine, beer or anything else will do any harm. A little of what you fancy does you good.
